What are the school hours?

The first bell rings at 8:10 a.m. daily and first period begins at 8:15 a.m. The school day ends at 3:05 p.m. Please arrive on time to class.

What hours does my child attend school on Half Day?

School begins at 8:10 a.m. and finishes at 12:30 p.m.

What do I do if my child is absent?

If your child is absent from school, please call our attendance office at 696-8553. If you cannot call the office, please send a written note to our attendance clerk. When you are reporting your child's absence, please tell us why your student is absent.

What should I do if my child is going to be late?

Please do one of these three things if your child will be late to school.

  1. Call the attendance office to inform us.
  2. Send a note with your child to the attendance office.
  3. Come and sign your student in at the attendance office.

Is busing available?

Yes, we offer busing for your students. Please know your busing route to know the pick-up and drop-off times for your student.

What are the rules for riding the bus?

Bus transportation for students is a privilege. Your child may ride the bus as long as he/she follows the rules. Please help us by discussing the following rules with your child.

  1. Obey the bus driver at all times.
  2. Go directly to your seat and remain seated, facing the front of the bus.
  3. Visit quietly.
  4. Be courteous at all times.
  5. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself and inside of the bus.
  6. Keep harmful objects off the bus.
  7. Be at your bus stop five (5) minutes before your scheduled pick up time.

Will my child have homework every night?

Usually your child will have homework.  Some classes, such as math, will require homework almost every night.  Homework in other classes is often an extension of assignments begun in classes.  On the average, teachers will assign approximately thirty to forty-five minutes of homework to students each night.

My child needs medication. How will you make sure he/she gets it?

The Flowing Wells School nurse will give your child any needed medications. We can only do this under certain criteria.

  1. You must bring all medications to the nurse’s office in the original labeled container.
  2. You must have a written doctor's order to accompany any medications. These include over-the-counter medicines like aspirin, cough medicine, allergy medicines, etc., as well as prescribed medicines.
  3. Written parent permission must accompany all medicines, prescriptions as well as non-prescriptions.

What does it take to be on the Honor Roll?


Platinum:
Gold:
Blue:

4.0 grade point average (All A’s) and 2 or less absences
4.0 grade point average (All A’s)
3.50 – 3.99 grade point average

What meals does Flowing Wells Jr. High provide?

We offer breakfast to students every day from 7:45 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. We have a nice variety of hot and cold food items.

We offer hot lunches every day too. We also have reduced lunches available to students who qualify. Please contact the director of the Food and Nutrition Services at 696-8637.

What is the dress code at Flowing Wells Jr. High?

Parents, please remind your students about the importance of dressing appropriately. That includes wearing socks and shoes. Shorts should have a minimum inseam of five inches. Pants should reach the ground and fit around your waist. Jewelry should be modest and nothing spiky is allowed. Never allow your student to come to school dressed in clothes that portray drugs, alcohol, violence, profanity, or suggestive remarks. As a student, you don't need distractions.

Please don't wear the following items:

  • Swimwear
  • Pajamas
  • Halter tops or bare midriff shirts
  • Shoulder straps less than 2 inches wide
  • Excessive make-up or black lipstick
  • Skirts shorter than mid-thigh

What should my student not bring to school?

The following items are NOT appropriate for school and we will confiscated the items if found on campus.

  • Cameras (regular, video, digital, or phone cameras) unless designated by administration/teacher
  • Electronic games or similar devices or laser pointers
  • Chains (i.e., attached to wallets, keys, etc.)
  • Trading cards
  • Inappropriate magazines
  • Drug related symbols and paraphernalia
  • Cigarette lighters/matches
  • Water guns, BB guns, or toy guns
  • Permanent markers, white out, and other toxic office supplies – They may be used under with a teacher’s request or under supervision only

Are uniforms mandatory for P.E.?

Yes, every student must wear a uniform to physical education. Uniforms consist of a gray
T-shirt and navy blue shorts with the Flowing Wells logo. You can purchase a complete uniform from our school for $18.00, or you can pick up the clothing from another location like Wal-Mart, Target, etc.
